Linux Runs on PS5, Successfully Plays Enhanced GTA V

Developer Andy Nguyen announced today on the X platform that he has successfully ported the Linux system to the PS5 game console.

According to reports, this PS5 game console running Linux can smoothly play Rockstar’s masterpiece “GTA5 Enhanced Edition” at a frame rate of approximately 60 FPS, while also enabling ray tracing.

Andy Nguyen also revealed that the PS5 running Linux is functioning normally, with 4K HDMI output and audio output available, and all USB ports on the device working properly. Currently, the CPU is running at 3.2GHz, and the GPU is running at 2.0GHz, and theoretically, these two can be boosted to 3.5GHz and 2.23GHz, respectively.

However, during testing, he discovered that if the frequency was increased to the theoretical level, his PS5 Slim would overheat quickly, so he ultimately decided to reduce the frequency to improve heat dissipation.

It’s important to note that Andy Nguyen used a complete exploit chain to run the Linux system, which only works on older firmware versions. In other words, the latest PS5 system version cannot currently run Linux.
