Mercedes-Benz officially released the all-new 2028 VLE. The new car is positioned as a “luxury large sedan,” targeting both family consumers and business professionals.
In terms of appearance, the VLE features a large grille at the front, with an optional version featuring an illuminated frame. The grille is flanked by headlights with star-studded elements, and the hood has a raised design with a three-pointed star emblem. Consumers can also opt for the AMG exterior package, which includes a more sporty front bumper and a grille design with a central star emblem.
The vehicle features a streamlined side profile, concealed door handles, and power sliding doors. Windows can be fully lowered and retracted. It also boasts large windows and 19- to 22-inch wheels. Its aerodynamics are equally impressive, with a drag coefficient of 0.25. The rear adopts a vertical design, with curved taillights integrated into the roof spoiler. The vehicle also features an opening rear window and a downward-opening charging port.
According to reports, the VLE measures 5309mm in length, 1999mm in width, and 1943mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3342mm. A longer version will be launched in the future, with a length of 5484mm and a wheelbase of 3517mm.
The new car’s interior emphasizes technology and luxury. The vehicle offers an optional MBUX Superscreen system, providing a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a 14-inch central control screen, and a 14-inch passenger screen. A rear entertainment system is also available, featuring a 31.3-inch panoramic screen that unfolds from the roof, supporting 8K resolution, split-screen display, and equipped with an 8-megapixel camera for video conferencing.
Other features include a 22-speaker Burmester 3D surround sound system and a Sky View panoramic glass roof with ambient lighting. The interior is equipped with folding tables and various storage modules, as well as wireless phone charging and a built-in refrigerator.
The VLE offers cabin layouts for 6 to 8 seats. Customers can choose between individual seats in the second and third rows, individual seats in the second row combined with rear bench seats, or two rows of rear bench seats.
Mercedes-Benz places particular emphasis on seat design. The manual seats are equipped with four casters, allowing for easy movement within the vehicle and even removal from the vehicle itself. Higher-spec versions offer power seats, controllable via the in-car system or a mobile app. Mercedes-Benz describes adjusting the seats as “almost like choreographing a ballet.”
In higher-spec versions, Mercedes-Benz also offers Premium Comfort and Grand Comfort seats. The Grand Comfort seats are close to private jet level, equipped with footrests, lumbar support, massage functions, headrests, and wireless charging for mobile phones.
In terms of power, the debut model, the VLE 300, is equipped with a 115kWh ternary lithium battery and a front-mounted motor, with a maximum power of 203kW (272 horsepower). Its WLTP range exceeds 700km.
A VLE 400 4MATIC version will also be launched later, equipped with a dual-motor all-wheel drive system , with a combined output of 305kW (409 horsepower) and a 0-96km/h acceleration time of 6.4 seconds.
The VLE uses an 800V electrical architecture and supports DC fast charging of 300kW or higher. A 15-minute charge can add approximately 355km of range.
In terms of chassis, the vehicle is equipped with AirMatic air suspension and a rear-wheel steering system , with a maximum rear wheel turning angle of 7 degrees, giving it a turning radius of 5.45m, comparable to the CLA.
In addition, the VLE is equipped with 12 ultrasonic sensors, 10 cameras, and 5 radar sensors to provide data support for the MB.Drive Assist Pro system, enabling hands-free driving on both city roads and highways.
