DuckDuckGo Launches Free AI Photo Editing Feature; No Registration Required, Free to Use

DuckDuckGo announced in a blog post yesterday (February 19th) that its privacy AI platform Duck.ai, has launched an AI image editing function. This function is free to use (with a limit) and can be used directly without registering an account.

DuckDuckGo launched its image generation feature at the end of 2025, and to further lower the barrier to entry for users to experience AI image editing, it has recently launched an AI image editing feature.

In terms of operation, users only need to select “New Image” in the Duck.ai sidebar, click the “Start with an Image” button, or directly drag images in formats such as JPEG, PNG, and WebP into the dialog box.

After uploading, users simply need to describe their desired adjustments in the dialog box (e.g., “change the background to a starry sky” or “remove the water glass on the left side of the image”), and the system will invoke OpenAI’s underlying model processing instructions to generate the modified image. Regarding privacy protection, given that this feature relies on OpenAI’s models, DuckDuckGo has implemented strict privacy isolation measures to alleviate user concerns.

DuckDuckGo emphasizes that before sending prompts to OpenAI, the system forcibly removes all image metadata and the user’s IP address to ensure that the model provider cannot track the user’s identity. Furthermore, all uploaded original images are stored only on the user’s local device and are not stored on cloud servers.
